Keys Messages from the Forum
1. As Durable Solutions to Forced Dispacements in Africa, Repatriation and deprtation should not be the default solutions to forced displacement victims. African National Human Rights Institutions must lead in the dialogue of ‘nationalising’ refugees into the host communities.
- African National Human Rights Institutions in collaboration with other stakeholders like CSOs need to hold governmentsts accountable through encouraging rafitication of international, regional commitments, & monitoring adherence to human rights standards for all for Durable Solutions to Forced Dispacements in Africa.
- African National Human Rights Institutions need to work with partners and communities in crafting early warning signs mechanisms to avert crisis instead of responding when matters are out of hand. This is one of their core roles in contributing to Durable Solutions to Forced Dispacements in Africa.
- African National Human Rights Institutions should advise the government, especially parliament to not only domesticate, but implement the AU Union Convention for the Protection and Assistance of Internally Displaced Persons in Africa (Kampala Convention) for Durable Solutions to Forced Dispacements in Africa.
- African National Human Rights Institutions need to collect comprehensive data to guide policy and legal inteventions towards Durable Solutions to Forced Dispacements in Africa. Data is key in influencing decsion making towards adoption of legal reforms.
