Adieu Uncle Ahmed Carayol
When some tragedies hit, they whack our consciousness really hard.
This is especially so when it involves a veteran media practitioner, an uncle, an avuncular partner and an exemplary human being that was Ahmed Carayol who died early on Tuesday.
Although he was an outstanding news layout designer of his time, Carayol was above all a man of near-impeccable character who earned his stripes with diligence, honesty and light-heartedness.
Although a septuagenarian, this media thoroughbred refused to be deterred by age and held onto his layout role in the media already overwhelmed by new technological breakthroughs which rendered some of his contemporaries redundant overnight.
He defied this trend and kept pushing with unmatched fervor to witness the birth of The Monitor.
A father figure, whose time in this world was absolutely well-spent in the pursuit of truth, fairness and faith in God, Uncle Ahmed Carayol was a fighter who like all mortals finally lost his singular battle with death.
Knowing and working with him presents us with the tonic with which to carry on with his legacy of steadfastness and belief in the face of staggering odds.
Adieu Sir, repose toi bien
