Boro Kanda Kasse lays foundation stone for vegetable market
The Village Development Committee (VDC) of Boro Kanda Kasse in the Upper River Region (URR) has laid the foundation stone to build the vegetable garden for women in the community.
Alhagie Mawdo Garry, Chairman of the VDC said the event came as a fulfilment of the request made by the village women which was made in 2019 to be allocated a plot of land for a standard vegetable market.
“This is cognizant of the role of the informal sector in our drive towards economic growth, which forms the core of government’s poverty alleviation strategies,” he said during the low-key ceremony in the community.
The village Alkalo, Saiba Juwara said apart from the numerous issues noted to be affecting the vegetable market, the condition of the present market stood out as a case that required urgent attention.
“I have been touched by faith and strong perseverance over the years and as such, we the elders of the village made a promise to allocate them a space to work towards a better condition for the market vendors.”
Speaking on behalf of the donors, Abou N. Juwara expressed gratitude to the village elders for allocating the women a space to build a market.
“This project underpins our association’s strong desire to revitalise business in terms of quality and standard with a view to ensuring the sustainable development of the vital sector which by all standards is poised to contribute meaningfully towards the realization of our dream,” he said.
