Halifa Sallah, Secretary general of People’s Democratic Organisation for Independence and Socialism (PDOIS) has cautioned the government not to promise what they cannot deliver.

Sallah’s statement came in the wake of the popular outcry of people about the high cost of living in The Gambia due to the skyrocketing of commodities prices, especially food product.

He was analysing the government’s promise of importing oil and sell it at a lower price during a discussion with Gambians, dubbed ‘citizens engagement’ at the PDOIS political bureau at Churchill’s Town.

“Do not promise what you cannot deliver,” he warned.

“What did you hear recently? They said they are going to compete with the people marketing food products,” Sallah said.

He informed the gathering that the government said they they are going to import oil so that they can sell for less and when they are the same economists who will tell you that there is import generated inflation.

“It is the same people who will tell you that the reason why fertiliser is D2000 is because of Ukrain and the same people would go and import oil and still ultimately they will lower the price of oil.”

“What type of logic is that?  Are we really thinking?” he asked.

The Gambian political leader cum sociologist said that is no policy making, adding that making is based on on facts.

“You must investigate gather your information, save in order to be able to make a logical induction of what is possible and what is not possible,” he pointed out.
