The former Vice President of the Republic of The Gambia and Minister of Women’s Affairs, has disclosed that she would have resigned before she was relieved from her post, if President Adama Barrow didn’t see the country first.

Fatoumatta Jallow Tambajang was speaking to the media on the sideline of the just concluded National Reconciliation Party (NRP) congress, held in Jarra Soma Lower Basic School, Lower River Region.

She expressed opposition to opinions held by some Gambians that, the coalition government has failed, saying it would be unfair if she agrees to such notions.

“As a professional, speaking not because of His Excellency Adama Barrow, not because I want to go back to government, not because of any other thing, but because he is seeing the country and I also seeing the country and I think I could work with him.

However, If His Excellency did not see The Gambia first, I wouldn’t have worked with him. If he did not see Gambia first, I would not have continued with the coalition. I would have resigned,” Madam Tambajang said.

She revealed that though she is not in the mainstream of the government, she is still part of it by virtue of her position as chair of the coalition, saying The Gambia must come first in line with the agenda of the coalition.

The former VP emphasised her desire to work for the country and her people, despite holding no position in it, as such is struggle she wish to continue with, adding that she is not waiting for any position, she is not anticipating to get a position, God gave her position courtesy and appreciation of His Excellency President Barrow, which is quite acknowledged and that she will to continue for the country and her people.

She seized the opportunity and urged Gambians to desist from tribalism and work for the interest and welfare of the country and her people at all times, saying that we cannot afford to have tribalism in this country. We must unite and look at our national anthem, which provided among others that, diversity is our strength.
