Fabakary Tombong Jatta, leader of opposition Alliance for Patriotic Re-orientation and Construction (APRC) has accused President Adama Barrow led government of expressing hatred for his party and former President Yahya Jammeh.

“Some people are in President Barrow’s government but their only plan is to kill APRC,” he told a huge crowd of supporters at a political rally on Saturday at Abuko in Kanifing Municiplity.

According to him, Ebrima Sankareh, the government spokesperson broadly hates APRC and former President Jammeh.

He asserted that he heard Mr. Sankareh said in a radio station that the former government has not achieved any development in the country.

“He (Sankareh) was a journalist and he knows that the Gambia Radio and Television Services, GRTS was established by former President Jammeh’s government,” he argued.

He pointed out that the modern National Assembly complex was also built by the APRC government.

Jatta said the government spokesperson knew all these developments but such people only want to tarnish APRC’s image.

He also accused Abubacarr Tambedou, Attorney General and Minister of Justice of open display of antagonism against his party, stating that the minister is commending soldiers for attempting to overthrow Yahya Jammeh’s government.

The veteran APRC politician expressed disappointment on Adelede Soseh, Vice Chairperson of the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparation Commission (TRRC) for what he called defacing the name of his party abroad.

He lamented that Vice Chairperson Sosseh went abroad and told the diaspora that the people of Foni, former President Jammeh’s disctrct of birth are undermining the reconciliation of the country.

The former majority leader at the National Assembly also expressed disappointment with current Vice President, Dr. Isatou Touray for alleging the people of Foni of enjoying free electricity, water and rice during Yahya Jammeh’s era.

“When she was saying that, she knew it was not true,” Jatta stressed.

On the new constitution
Fabakary told his party supporters that APRC officials would study the new constitution to ensure that they enlighten the APRC supporters concerning the referendum.

“The APRC national executive committee would tell you to vote for your interest and vote against anything that is not beneficial to you,” he said.

On ‘3 Years Jotna’
He said his party has nothing to say about the three years or five years controversial issue, but he was quick to add that if any person or group attempts to destroy the 22 years of work by the APRC government they will collide with his or her party.

He added that his party has no problem with peaceful demonstration but if the protesters attempt to destroy the work of the APRC government they will face them with red eyes.

“The coalition government has failed all Gambians. When Ousainou Darboe was released from prison, he said if anyone says Gambia will go to the poll by three years he will prosecute him or her,” he recalled.

However, he said the United Democratic Party, UDP has now changed its mind to three years and demanded President Barrow’s resignation by December.

Jatta explained that the Bamba Tenda – Yelli Tenda Bridge, Laminkoto- Passamas road and Sukuta- Jabamjelly road are all projects of former President Jammeh and APRC and not the current government.
