Gambia suspends 371 public and environmental health officers
Gambia’s Ministry of Health through the office of the permanent secretary has suspended 371 Public and Environmental Health Officers for two months without salary.
The suspension is a reaction to the sit down strike of the officers after the failure of the Ministry to meet the deadline for the settlement of their allowances.
The recent action of the Ministry is contained in a letter dated July 1, 2022 copied to the Accountant General, Auditor General, Secretary to the Public Service Commission and PMO-Human Resources Information System.
“This is to inform you that the Public Service Commission has approved the suspension of 371 (Three Hundred and Seventy-One) Public and Environmental Health Officers from duties for a period of 2 (two) months without salary with effect from July 1, 2022. This is as a result of their non-compliance to resume duties after a long period of unauthorised absence,” stated the letter signed by O. Barrow for the Permanent Secretary.
