Halifa Sallah: The Current system has no solution to Gambia’s problems

Mr Halifa Sallah, the presidential candidate for People’s Democratic Organisation for Independence and Socialism (PDOIS) has said that the current system has no answers to Gambia’s problems.

Sallah the secretary general of PDOIS and parliamentarian for Serrekunda Central was speaking at face-to-face meeting with the people in Youna on Monday in the West Coast region.

Explaining his manifesto dubbed “Transformative Agenda” to the electorate, Sallah said in seeking to eradicate poverty, injustice and ignorance in the country, his party aims to build a self-reliant and self-determined economic base.

According to him, this is to ensure poverty eradication and sustainable people centred socio-economic development.

He assured young people of job creation in the various sectors of the country’s economy.

“PDOIS led Government would build factories for processing adding the economic base of the country would be enhance by investing into the productive base of the economy,” he pledged.

He added that production based  welfare would be linked to consumption based welfare.

He said they want propotionate rise in individual income and community income to faciltate availabilityand affordability of food, safe drinking water among other needs both in rural and urban Gambia.

Sallah promised to improve the infrastructure of the country, adding that a PDOIS led Government would ensure that the country produce and process what we grow to have a self-reliant and export oriented agriculture with guaranteed food security.

He said the national budget would be regionally shared to provide each region with funds to allocate to regional and district treasury accounts managed by regional councils and district councils.

Sallah said a PDOIS led Government would create a ministry for industrial and infrastructural development would link agriculture with value added processing and facilitate investment complemented by infrastructural development.
