National Assembly: Gov’t institutions owe MDI millions

The Deputy Director General of Management Development Institute (MDI), Ms Fatou A. Barry, has reported that several state ministries and departments owe the Institute millions of dalasis.

Deputy DG Barry made these revelations before the Finance and Public Account Committee (FPAC) of the National Assembly on Thursday, June 30, 2022.

“There are ministries that are owing us millions for training their personnel but could not still pay the money,” said Fatou A. Barry.

Explaining the attempts made for the recovery of the money, the MDI Deputy boss lamented the lack of commitment from these state institutions that are owing them over two years without paying the debt while urging the National Assembly to intervene on their behalf.

“I have personally taken invoices to the offices of two Permanent Secretaries for the payment of their debts but not a single butut was paid,” she lamented.

Deputy DG Barry highlighted the actions taken by the management to regain the money that includes sending students away or withholding their certificates but it does not solved the problem until when they started to deny students from taking exams.

Honourable Musa Cham and Fatou Cham, both members of the committee suggested that a legal action should be taken against those institutions that are found wanting to pay the money.

Meanwhile, the Committee agreed on the important role of MDI in the training of public servants and promised to support the improvement of the institution.
