The leader of United Democratic Party (UDP) Ousainou Darboe has said that he has the physical strength and the mental capacity to lead Gambia when declared as winner on Sunday, December 5.

Darboe was responding to questions about his health ahead in just three days to election during an interview with The Monitor at his Pipeline residence in the Kanifing Municipality today.

He said his party’s priorities ranges from youth employment, by creating skills trainings, standard education, improving health care, agriculture among others which are cross cutting.

Darboe optimistically said that on December 5, 2021 the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) will declare him as the winner of the election.

Asked about his long predicament throughout the dictatorial regime of Jammeh and still on the journey, Darboe said there is at least some fulfillment which should be further broadened.

For Ousainou, the country needs serious economic emancipation as prices of daily commodities are skyrocketing while the earning of the people are not proportionately increasing.

Alive and kicking

He also refuted rumours that were making rounds in the social media that the UDP leader has died.

The UDP leader is said to have sustained an injury in Jarra, Lower Region of The Gambia during campaign from which he is recovering.

He told journalist that he recently had a meeting with former Ghana president John Mahama at African Princess Hotel.

Darboe whose current health situation generated the rumours had also addressed a rally held in Gunjur, Kombo North yesterday virtually from his home told supporters that their gathering was a testimony of the hope they have in the UDP.

“You have trust us with tremendous responsibility to turn this country away from its present direction. The eyes of the people across the country will be focused on all of us,” he enthused.

He added that of thousands of Gambians are centred around them as the future of The Gambia depends on all of them.

“Together we will neither falter nor fail and betray your hopes and dreams for a better and more progressive Gambia” he concluded.
