The Office of the Vice President of The Gambia has urged the development partners to support the government technically and financially in order to accelerate the efforts of the National Response Strategy for COVID-19 and Food Insecurity.
The Permanent Secretary at the Vice Presidency Dawda Lamin Ceesay made the call on behalf of the VP Dr. Isatou Touray recently during the establishment of the National Response Strategy Committee on Food Insecurity for COVID-19 held at the National Nutrition Agency (NaNA).
Four key areas including health, food insecurity, socio-economic impact and rule of law were outlined by the committee that needed response. However, health and food insecurity require rapid response.
“To address these two major hazards in the country, there is need for a well-coordinated system at this point in order to mitigate and build resilience through the development of this strategy”, he said.
Ceesay suggested the need for a well-coordinated system that comprises government, UN Systems, NGOs and other partners to make sure the strategy is implemented to expectation.
He hailed partners for their support in combating the coronavirus and the food insecurity since the outbreak hit the country while appealing for more assistance to ensure smooth and rapid implementation of the response strategy.
