Pa Modou Bojang, the proprietor of Home Digital FM said he is now more courageous than ever after his released from police custody.
Mr. Bojang was among the four journalists, Gibi Jallow, Ebrima Jallow and Madiou Jallow who were arrested on Sunday during the anti-government protest organized by Operation 3 Years Jotna movement.
All the four journalists were charged with a single count of Incitement of violence.
“I am braver than ever and I will continue to be law abiding and also continue doing my journalistic work. At “Membekering” (a famous show meaning the happenings in Mandinka) I will continue to say as it is and if anybody doesn’t want that you better leave public office. Public officials are to be scrutinized,” he remarked.
According to him his arrest and detention was unlawful and the police have not provided him with any food to eat.
“In all the cells I have been detained are in terrible conditions. Even criminals have rights and therefore you cannot arrest someone without telling the person the crimes he or she has committed,” he queried.
He made these remarks upon his release from the Wellingara police station, in Kombo North, West Coast Region.
He alleged that the government spokesman, Ebrima G. Sankareh has been telling people that he will shut down Home Digital FM.
“Ebrima G. Sankareh has been going around telling people that I am against President Barrow and therefore he will make sure my radio station is closed,” Bojang alleged..
He described Ebrima G. Sankareh, the government spokesperson and Ebrima Sillah, Minister of Information and Communication Infrastructure as disappointments.
“I am not affiliated to any political party. All I know is that I am impartial and my radio shows have ever been open to all the political parties,” he said.
The anti-government protest, however, turned out to be a violent clash between protesters and personnel of the Police Intervention Unit (PIU) also known as paramilitary officers.
Mr. Bojang’s radio station was shut down by the government based on allegations from the government spokesman, Ebrima G. Sankareh that the radio engages itself in sending incendiary remarks.
