Rural Urban Charitable Association (RUCA) in partnership with Aids Healthcare Foundation has recently donated 1,000 face masks and detergent soaps to Keneba Islamic Institute, Keneba, Kiang West, as part of its efforts to raise awareness geared towards eradicating COVID-19.
RUCA has for the past years been active at the forefront of providing humanitarian support to orphans, women and school going children, in their relentless pursuit to ensure productive and healthy communities.
The Project Manager of RUCA Lamin Jobe, said many people are still politicizing the existential threat of COVID-19.
He said part of their mission is to raise awareness on COVID-19 precautionary measures to less privileged communities.
“It is an open secret that a lot of people are with the denial face. Some people don’t even believe the existence of COVID-19 in the country, and this is a very serious issue. Serious in the sense that if you don’t believe the existence of COVID-19 then you cannot take the necessary preventive measures,” he said.
The significance of wearing face masks, he said will reduce the spread of COVID-19.
“Now schools have reopened with strict measures. But some of these measures cannot be implemented without the necessary measures. It is important that we wear face masks, and wash our hands when we come to class” he remarked.
Ebrima Ceesay, senior teacher at Keneba Islamic Institute applauded the donor partners for their timely intervention to support the school with sanitary items.
The maintenance of hygienic practices, he said is of paramount importance in the fight to defeat COVID-19.
He urged students to continue wearing of face masks in school at all times.
Lamin Leekebba Ceesay, Clinical Nurse at MRC Keneba branch said since the outbreak of the virus in China, it has affected over one hundred million people around the world.
He advised the students of the school and the public to adhere to measures set aside by World Health Organisation (WHO) in order to combat the pandemic.
“This deadly pandeemic was first discovered in China, since then it has affected a total number of one hundred and nineteen million people globally and Gambia is not an exception. Therefore it is only through collective efforts that we could control the spread of coronavirus,” he concluded.
