GAF: 2 soldiers arrested for missing fuel coupon at defence headquarters

The Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) have Wednesday arrested two soldiers who were on duty at the Defence Headquarters in Banjul following a break-in and theft at the office resulting in missing fuel coupons worth over D300,000.00.
Confirming the incident to The Monitor, Lamin K. Sanyang GAF spokesperson said the guards who were on duty on the night of Tuesday 7 to Wednesday 8 April at the defence headquarters were arrested when the break-in occurred.
The army spokesperson further confirmed the arrest in a dispatch that Corporal Sarjo Conteh and Corporal Ismaila Saidyfaye of The Gambia Armed Forces in connection with the missing fuel coupons at the Defence Headquarters worth over D300,000.00.
He said the soldiers are presently in the custody of the military police helping them in their investigations.
“On Wednesday 8 April 2020, all the guards and soldiers on duties at the Defence Headquarters on the night of the ‘break-in and theft’ were arrested and detained by the military police. All the soldiers are in ‘open custody’ meaning that they are detained but allowed limited freedoms pending the conclusion of investigations by the GAF,” he stated.
