A recent inferno at Fajikunda Health Centre’s biggest building has burnt down medicines at the facility.

Sources said the fire started at 5:00pm when most of the workers have closed from work.

According to the officer in charge at the health centre Ms. Ramatoulie Camara, a security guard called her attention to the incident.

“I rushed to the place and we called the Fire and Rescue Services and with their timely intervention the fire was contained,” she told The Monitor.

She said the affected building is the biggest in the entire health centre as it housed the section where pregnant women, out patient, check up place for children under-five years and it’s a very busy place during the day.

Ratatouille said the outbreak was associated with the erratic manner of electricity supply, explaining that National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC) effected a general black out and rushed to the scene and cut of the cable of the facility for safety.

An eyewitness, Mansata Dumbuya, vendor at the entrance of the medical facility, said she knew about the incident from the screaming of kids, “fire incident at the health centre,” while cooking dinner.

She said the residents of the area responded before the arrival of the Fire and Rescue Service.

She attributed the incidence to the erratic power supply and poor wiring of the building.
