Living with long pain: Karamo Sanneh complains of deteriorating health at Truth Commission

Karamo Sanneh, also native of Sintet, Foni Jarol district, West Coast Region, has told the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparation Commission (TRRC) that since after former Gambian President Yahya Jammeh’s purported ‘witch hunting’ exercise of 2009 he is still undergoing treatment for continuous body pain and deteriorating health.

“From that moment up to date my health condition deteriorated with pain all over my body and am still undergoing treatment,” complained the witness.

He said the ”witch hunters,’ a man and two soldiers found him in his compound sitting at the veranda.

He said they asked him to go with them, threaten to be beaten and forced to board the bus filled with women.

He said his elder brother was bruterlised mercilessly by a group led by former President Jammeh’s aide, Solo Bojang accompanied by Green Boys and Green Girls drumming, singing and dancing.

Mr. Sanneh told the Commission that they were provided food after their arrival at Kanilai but he did not eat and later ordered to go inside where a man gave them concoction to drink.

He also said after bathing him with the concoction he was asked to drink some and they threw some portion on my face and he felt extorted.

“In the following morning after I woke up I saw Solo Bojang sitting under a tree with the man whom I referred to as their leader,” he added.

The witness said Solo called former President Yahya Jammeh and he (Sanneh) was urged to speak to Jammeh who branded him as a witch.

He said in response he told Jammeh on phone that his father and mother are a witch and wizard respectively.

He revealed that his response cost him an immediate nasty slap and merciless beatings by Solo Bojang.

Sanneh claimed that it was Yahya Jammeh who beat him because he gave the order to his people to beat him as the man responsible for everything.
