Mansa Sumareh, the Chief Driver at the President’s Office, State House in Banjul, has resigned from his position.

Sumareh was in August arrested, questioned and released in connection with the on-going diplomatic passport scandal.

His arrest followed State House’s statement in a futile effort to discredit report by The Standard, a local newspaper that Mansa was the Chief Driver at the country’s presidential palace.

But his leaked pay slip evidenced that he was the man in the position until his resignation.

His resignation letter captioned “RESIGNATION FROM MY JOB” reads: With humility, I write to duly inform your good office of my intention to immediately resign as Chief Driver at the Office of the President.

Mansa said his reasons for tendering resignation is premised on the fact that, he realised that the working environment is no longer conducive and friendly for him to serve.

“In light of the foregoing circumstance I wish to pay in full a one month salary in lieu of the notice ahead,” he stated in his resignation letter.

He assured State House of his highest consideration, support and participation in terms of the implementation of the National Development Plan (NDP) to which he believes every citizen shall participate.

The letter copied to the Accountant General, Auditor General and the Secretary of the Public Service Commission concluded by looking forward to hearing from the President’s Office at State House.

In efforts to confirm the story, The Monitor today contacted the Director of Press and Public Relations at State House, Amie Bojang-Sossoho but stated that she was not aware.

During the intense moment of the diplomatic passport scandal punctuated by document outflows that made rounds on the social media, Amie Bojang-Sissoho signed the release that said Mansa was neither a Chief Driver nor the driver of President Barrow at State House.

The State House said in the statement attempted to misinformed the public that that Mansa ceased to be Chief Driver since November 2018.

Attempts made by an editor of this medium to hear from the Spokesperson of the Government of The Gambia, Ebrima G. Sankareh proved unsuccessful, as he responded that he could not talk at that moment.
