Kaira Konko Scout Association has recently donated 125 bags of 50kg of rice to the vulnerable people in Jarra and surrounding villages to support them during the period of 45 days of State of Public Emergency declared by the government to contain COVID-19.

The declaration brought about economic inconveniences as the operation of businesses and movements of people have become restricted causing alarm for shortage of food in the households.

Speaking to The Monitor , the local coordinator and the manager of the scout Centre, Mr Lamin Kinteh stated the association’s commitment to rendering help to the people of the community.

“The organization has embarked on a fundraising exercise in the United Kingdom which was used to buy these bags of rice that are issued to the people of the community. We as a charitable organization would try to strengthen efforts to offer humanitarian help to the people, more special during this period of food insecurity,” he said.

Kinteh said this is the second of such initiatives provided by the association geared towards helping the vulnerable members of the society.

“This is not the first time the organization offers this kind of help. The first took place during the 2016 post electoral standoff in the country. The organization gave numerous bags of rice to the vulnerable people during that time too,” he recalled.

“Since the founding of the scout Centre, there have been a lot of development projects undertaken by the association. Keys among the whole lots are the school renovations within the community, the scholarships offered to the needy students, as well as the boreholes that are being dug in the community would all go a long way towards effecting positive changes in the livelihood of the local dwellers,” Kinteh said.

He advised people to strictly adhere to the government recommendation of keeping social distancing, and refrain from outrageous claims that the virus is not existing in the country.
