Sexagenarian Sintet woman explains death of her mentally deranged brother

Matty Sanyang, a 68-year-old woman and a native of Sintet, Foni Jarrol district, West Coast Region of The Gambia has said that her mentally deranged brother was mercilessly beaten and died after six months.

“When I board the bus I saw my brother, Malaga Gaye who was mentally deranged. He was beaten mercilessly by paramilitary men on orders of Solo Bojang and all his body was bleeding after six months he died and we were taken to Kanilai,” she revealed

Matty was testifying at the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparation Commission (TRRC) during a regional hearing.

She said they got information that former Gambian President Yaya Jammeh sent the ‘witch hunters’’ to take people to Kanilai.

The witness said she was with her sister who newly delivered and they ran away with her baby to Kabom but the paramilitary men and the soldiers were still chasing them.

She said they were captured by two men who wore red clothes with mirror and horns.

She said she was taken to Fula kunda were the bus was parked and they asked her to board the bus which was carrying over 40 people.

The witness added that when they arrive at Kanilai food was provided for them and later took her inside the room, stripped her naked, bathed and forced to drink concoction by a man and two soldiers.

She said some portion of the concoction was splashed on her face.

She further said that they were forced to say that they were witches.

She said since after drinking the concoction she had chest pain and eye infection.

Sanyang who said she was a farmer but could not do the work now, concluded that countries that did not know Yahya Jammeh and thought that people just accusing him know him now.
