Sunday protesters’ leader Abdou Njie, others arrested, detained

Information reaching The Monitor  have it that Adou Njie, chairperson of the 3 Years Jotna movement and some protesters have been arrested by the Police Intervention Unit (PIU).

According to the source, Njie was arrested at the Kanifing General Hospital when he went to visit some injured protesters receiving treatment at the medical facility, adding that his arrest is in connection with the Sunday protest.

The source added that immediately after the arrest the 3 Years Jotna top official and other protesters were taken to the PIU headquarters in Kanifing.

“You could see the security officers in their black gears with batons surrounded Mr. Njie in the car and driving towards the police headquarter,” he said.

In another development, Yankuba Darboe, UK-trained lawyer and executive member of the movement stated on his facebook wall that he was going to surrender himself to Kairaba Police station.

However, the names of other protesters arrested along with Njie are yet to be confirmed by this medium.

Tear gas on journalist
The source further said the PIU vehicle was followed by a number of curious journalists who were fired with tear gas by the security as they get nearer to the PIU headquarters to prevent them from knowing the whereabouts of the arrestees.
