UDP’s Lawyer Yanks Darboe aspires to run for chairman in BAC

Lawyer Yankuba Darboe commonly known as Yanks Darboe has publicly declared his acceptance of a challenge to run for chairman in Brikama Area Council for the forthcoming local government elections in The Gambia slated for May 13, 2023.

The 40-year old lawyer and political activist who hailed from Kafuta village, Kombo East District, West Coast Region of The Gambiain in a facebook post said after much reflection, he had to accept the fact that he cannot continue to be on the side-lines of politics to criticise those in the hot seat of politics, whilst running away from the challenge himself.

“I have been challenged by friends and fellow party members of West Coast Region to throw my hat in for consideration for UDP nominations for the Chairmanship election of the West Coast Region, The Gambia,” he stated.

He who confirmed his political stance to The Monitor noted that he accepted the challenge and will be submitting his application for consideration to the UDP national secretariat, imploring people to wish him good luck.

“If I succeed well and good, but if I don’t, then will support anyone chosen by the mighty UDP for West Coast Region,” said Darbo.

Yankuba attended Kafuta Primary and Junior Secondary School before progressing to SOS Herman Gmeiner Senior Secondary at Bakoteh in The Gambia.

He went to the United Kingdom, where he attended City College Birmingham from year 2000 to   2003 and proceeded to University of Wolverhampton from 2003 – 2006 where he did his undergraduate Law studies and graduated with LLB (Hons) law degree.

He continued to London Metropolitan University from 2006 to 2008, where he did Post Graduate Diploma (PGDip) in Legal Practice.

Thereafter, he started his legal training as a trainee lawyer at Duncan Lewis law firm in London from 2010 to 2013 and qualified as a fully-fledged lawyer in March 2013 in the United Kingdom.

He further enrolled into The Gambia bar as a solicitor and barrister of The Gambia on 15 December 2017.

He has since been practicing as a Lawyer both in the United Kingdom and The Gambia.
