Walk4Health Gambia promoting healthy living

As part of its commitment to promoting healthy living among the citizenry, Walk4Health, The Gambia on Saturday, February 1, 2020 embarked on a health walk in the greater Banjul area.
The fitness walk started from the Friendship Hostel in Bakau through MD Road in Kanifing via Garba Jahumpa Road in Bakau to the Independence Stadium in Bakau.
The five-kilometer walk, which is an annual exercise, organized by Walk4Health Gambia attracted its members and sports enthusiasts who participated in the walk at the business enclave of Bakau.
This year’s walk anniversary is themed “Building Non-Communicable Disease Resilient Communities.”
Youth joined Walk4Health Gambia team together with their executive in a bid to promote physical exercise in the corporate world.
Sang Mendy, a member of the walk clutch said: “We have covered 7.35km within 1hr.35minutes using 9.631steps and burnt 395 calories.”
He added that the calories burnt are enough to convince people that walking is healthy.
Busenty Gomez, chief organizer for Walk4Health Gambia, said the health walk is to sensitize and encourage members on the need to adopt healthy lifestyles.
He indicated that, Gambians in general, go through a lot of stress because we sit for long hours hence the need to exercise to keep the body fit to serve people well.
“Walk4Health is not something that has been organized by me it was an initiative from uncle Sheriff Gomez, Muhammed Jagana, and Bruma Dibba amongs others. Many of us in the Gambia are suffering from non-communicable diseases and it is high time we work toward eradicating the menace,” he noted.
Mr. Gomez used the opportunity to congratulate the team for the dedication and enthusiasm in executing their various roles and the many incremental strides achieved.
