The National Youth President of Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC), Momodo Cham commonly known as MC Cham Jnr has said that President Adama Barrow who said that there is need to fight corruption In the Gambia  must start with himself first as president.

Speaking to The Monitor in an interview, he said it is an open secret that the Gambia is experiencing rampant corruption at the moment.

He added that Barrow said the price of cooking oil has been reduced and all those who know the price of commodities in the market are aware that the price of oil has not been reduced.

He believed that people who talk to the President in private about some of these issues are misleading him.

“If the President did not know the price of commodities in the market and how people are surviving then would not have sympathy for the masses,” he intimated.

The young vocal politician said there are several reports of corruption and more than 70 children died as a result of Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) but no thorough investigation has been carried out to bring those liable to book and justice.

According to Cham, for the six years of Barrow’s leadership, there were only useless commissions that did not yield any positive results.

He said the president has given out one million dalasis (D1,000,000) to be divided among the families of the AKI victims which was returned back.

MC commended the families for returning the money, describing it as a good move as the money should not be taken.

“What the families of the AKI child victims need is justice first and in a transparent matter.”

The cause of all these problems is as a result of negligence and corruption.

He said if one listens to Barrow protégés you would want to believe that everything is right in this country when people are living in terrible hardship.
