Mayor Bensouda lays foundation stone for green child friendly park in Tallinding

Talib Ahmed Bensouda, mayor of Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) on Tuesday,  November 8, 2022 laid the foundation stone for the construction of Tallinding green child-friendly and youth park.

The construction of this park is part of the Kanifing Environmental Transformation Programme (KETP) which is set to tackle the environmental and economic challenges within Kanifing municipality.

The Alkalo of Tallinding expressed gratitude to the mayor with assurance of their loyalty, especially in the upcoming local government election.

Karamo Ceesay, councillor for Tallinding south acknowledged receiving 500 trashed bins as part of the KETP coupled with restoration of 9000 mangroves.

He called on the people of Tallinding to vote fo4r the current mayor in the upcoming local government election.

Speaking on behalf of the KEPT project, Lamin Sanyang, director of cleansing service said the project will regenerate and develop 7 parks and green spaces with children’s play areas accessible to differently abled persons.

“This will enhance social inclusion, specifically for children, young people, women and differently abled persons by developing accessible green public parks. The development of these parks is central to the municipality’s efforts to green the city.”

While addressing the gathering, Mayor Talib Ahmed Bensouda underscored the contribution of the EU in realization of the project objectives following the awarding of three million euros (€3,000,000) equivalent to ten million dalasis (D180,000, 000).

The project has three components comprising of environment, education and waste management.

According to the mayor, the project is estimated at a budget of two million dalasis (D2,000,000) and an additional three million dalasis (D3,000,000) from Africell as part of commitment to welfare of the people of KMC especially Tallinding.

Bensouda seized the opportunity to urge the people of Tallinding south to entrust their votes to Karamo Ceesay in the upcoming local government elections, outlining his positive contribution to the development of the council and his people.

“This year, the project will construct two community parks with children’s playground in Bakau and Tallinding and when completed, the facilities will provide communities with green environment, healthy lifestyle and create job opportunities for the youth,” he concluded.
