Gambia confirms another new COVID-19 case

Gambia’s Ministry of Health has yesterday confirmed another COVID-19 case during a press briefing at its secretariat to update the public on the pandemic.

The new confirmation increased the total number of cases to 10 people who contacted the virus.

Presenting the 29th situation report since the confirmation of the first case of novel Coronavirus disease in The Gambia on 17 March 2020, Dr. Mustapha Bittaye said out of the 23 lap test results received one returned as positive.

“The newly confirmed case is a probable case whose first repeat test results was negative. The remaining 22 results returned negative, of these 6 are results of repeat test on the 6 existing cases they will be resampled in one to 3-days to ascertain the recovery status,” said Dr. Bittaye.

He said the remaining 16 are results of a new test conducted. He added that two people have been discharged from quarantine after testing negative upon completion of their mandatory quarantine period.

He further stated that 21 additional people are taken into quarantine and 19 of whom were close contacts of the 2 confirmed cases.

“Amongst the person affected is 1 from Senegal and another one from Guinea Bissau who traveled into the country by land. Currently, the country has 95 persons under quarantine 7 active cases and no probable cause,” he noted.
