Tallinding North Ward Development Committee Support Flood  Victims

Tallinding North Ward Development Committee (TNWDC) headed by the ward councillor, Baboucarr Mansally have on Sunday donated 21 bags of rice and ten bags of cement to flood victims who were affected by recent down pours in their various homes in Tallinding Kolobane in the Kanifing Municipality of The Gambia.

A total of 22 families were affected as food stuffs were destroyed and a fence of a home collapsed as a result of the floods.

Speaking at the presentation, Mr Musa Leigh of TWDC commended the donor and Pa Nderry Touray of Star FM who facilitated the mobilisation of funds for the support given to the victims.

He consoled the victims that the disaster hence can befall any member of the community.

Leigh thanked victims for their presence at TNWDC office during the presentation.

Ebrima Sonko of TNWDC also indicated that the support for the victims could have been more huge than what is presented but the urgent need for intervention could not allow any delay  in mobilising what is available so far.

He said the significance of the ward committee is beyond giving donation to victims of disaster.

He said the ward committee is here for all members of the community for the development of their ward.

Pa Nderry Touray of Star FM, one of the driving force behind the mobilisation of the funds to purchase the donated rice and cement intimated that a journalist’s work must impact on the lives of the people for him/her to be a valuable human resource for society.

He also thanked the donor for her benevolence and humanitarian gesture aimed at relieving victims.

Beneficiaries who spoke at the presentation in appreciation of the support commended the TNWDC, the councillor and the donor for their foresight, manifestation of public spirit and service to humanity.

They commended the councillor for his commitment toward the development of the ward and the wellbeing of his people.

On his part, the ward Councillor, Baboucarr Mansally expressed his grief about how the floods wrecked havoc on families.

He felicitated Pa Nderry Touray who covered the incident, spread the news through his radio show at Star FM and facilitated the mobilisation of funds for the victims.

He said the donor is a considerate human being  who even wanted to join him and his team at the scene of the flood to see for herself and participate in helping the affected families.

He also describes the donor as a good Samaritan and a humanist who preferred anonymity but have to name her in the future.

He said there are mitigation plans to avoid the repetition of the predicament resulting from such floods.

Mansally urged the community to make the TNWDC office their social clinic where matters for urgent intervention could be brought for strategic solution.

He urged all leaders to prioritise their people, calling on donors to do more and urged other to emulate.

On the 3 Years campaign for Barrow to step down, Mansally said people should focus on their families rather than fanning trouble in the country.

He called on the youth to desist from creating conflict.

The Tallinding North councillor said people have all the rights to hold their leaders accountable, stating that no one can fight with government.

He also warned against insulting of leaders, advising that leaders should be respected.

He observed that democracy is not about treating others with contempt.
